The Second of Seven Victories of the Generous Spirit
A few years ago a friend introduced me to a revolutionary idea. In our battle against the enemy, one of our greatest weapons is generosity. You may have never considered generosity as a weapon against the enemy. Neither had I. Here is the second of the seven victories that we win every time we perform an act of giving that flows from a generous, Christ-centered spirit.
Victory #2 – I Trust God to be my Provider
Generosity and trust are close allies in this battle. We give generously in part because we trust that God will meet all of our needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19) If we do not believe that God will meet our needs, we can never be the generous and joyful giver he created us to be. Generosity is an act of trust. When we have been set free to listen for God’s direction and then respond, no matter how outrageously generous he may ask us to be, we are victors in this battle. The great missionary to India, William Carey wrote,
“I was once young and now I am old, but not once have I been witness to God’s failure to supply my need when first I had given for the furtherance of His work. He has never failed in His promise, so I cannot fail in my service to Him.”
Trust God to be your absolute provider in all things, and watch what amazing generosity will result.
What kind of life do you want for yourself? Do you recognize the chains that keep you in bondage, that rob you of the life God created you to live, that stress you out and wear you down? Are you listening to the lies of the enemy regarding money, possessions, power, pride and praise? Most importantly, do you want to be free?
The loving God who created you has an amazing vision for your life, and it includes a heart of a faithful steward that is opened up to the world through Christ-centered generosity. I pray that you will embrace that life today. It begins with a simple but profound affirmation, “It’s All His.” To God be the glory
